Mataragas launches 2026 season with Illini 100
The 2026 season officially kicked off for Sycamore, Illinois' Mike Mataragas this past weekend as he trekked two hours south for the annual Illini 100 at Farmer City Raceway.
A total of 40 World of Outlaws Late Model Series entries filled the pit area for the doubleheader event. In Friday’s program, Mataragas showed promise in his debut aboard a Longhorn Chassis, advancing three positions in his heat race to finish seventh. He was unable to secure a transfer spot through his B-Main, however, bringing his night to an early end.
On Saturday, Mataragas showed improvement in both qualifying and his heat race. However, he ultimately fell short of a transfer position, finishing seventh in his B-Main and missing the $25,000-to-win main event.
